FastStart – the entrepreneurial training partnership between Trent University, Fleming College and the Greater Peterborough Innovation Cluster – took a lead role in supporting the recent launch of the Trent Youth Entrepreneurship Society.
On March 18, 2015, students were invited to attend the birth of this new student club. Dr. Andressa Lacerda, COO of Noble Purification Inc. – an Innovation Cluster Client – spoke about her experiences as an entrepreneur. Andressa shared how she juggled being a Trent University student while helping to create a new business.
“I am so happy to have this opportunity to share my ‘Lessons Learned’ – good and not so good – in starting a new business,” said Andressa.
“It is my hope that other young entrepreneurs can learn from our experiences in the creation and development of Noble Purification Inc., and that our lessons learned will benefit others as they set out to build new enterprises.”
John Knight, Manager of Corporate Research Partnerships at Trent University, also attended the event to support the birth of the Trent Youth Entrepreneurship Society.
“This is a wonderful opportunity we have here with FastStart @Trent committing to be a foundational sponsor for the Trent Youth Entrepreneurship Society,” John told us.
“Our kick-off meeting had a full room of interested young entrepreneurs, who came to listen to Andressa, but also to express their own personal desires to learn more about entrepreneurship and partake in the birth of a new campus club focused on helping young entrepreneurs get started and to find the support they need.”
Ryan Brewer, a 4th year business student and John Knight’s intern assisted in planning and developing the new society. Brewer said how unfortunate it is this society was not around when he started at Trent University, but he hopes to open the door for future Trent students.
“When I came to Trent four years ago, I wish I had encountered a student club or organization promoting entrepreneurship as a possible career path. My eyes were opened late. Before I graduate, I am so glad that I have this chance to help organize the Trent Youth Entrepreneurship Society, and I am appreciative of the support received in this endeavor from FastStart at Trent,” says Brewer.
