FastStart Peterborough, the youth entrepreneurship training partnership between Trent University, Fleming College and the Greater Peterborough Innovation Cluster, has launched a new program for current and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The Kawartha Backcountry Entrepreneurship Experience is a completely unique and transformative entrepreneurship experience for Peterborough youth aged 18 to 29.
This three-day boot camp is quite unlike any other entrepreneurship education and ideation program.
It will combine a full day of interactive classroom-style learning with two days of true backcountry paddling, camping and practical learning, including a ‘creative campfire’ session.
Open to all aspiring and current entrepreneurs who want to learn about starting their own business or further develop their skills, the Backcountry Entrepreneurship Experience offers an opportunity for Peterborough youth to immerse themselves in the world of entrepreneurship.
Day 1 of the program will provide participants with a full day of learning about entrepreneurship, along with opportunities to meet other entrepreneurs and learn from their experiences.
Entitled “Entrepreneurship 101: So you want to be an entrepreneur”, this session will take place on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Trent University, and will cover topics such as: what is an entrepreneur, Business Model Canvas, defining your target market, conducting market research, and “pitching your venture like a rock star”.
They will be devoted to a fun and competitive simulation that empowers teams to address entrepreneurial challenges and develop ideas for new business ventures in a “Kawartha Backcountry Competitive Advantage Challenge”.
The work done by each team will be presented to judges made up of other entrepreneurs, experts and peers.
Participation in the backcountry experience will be limited to just 20 youth, while the Entrepreneurship 101 session can accommodate up to 75 participants of all ages. Participants for the backcountry component of the program will be selected through an online application process. The deadline to submit applications is July 30, 2015.
The program is being presented in collaboration with the 2014 Bears’ Lair Entrepreneurship Competition Winner, The Land – Canadian Adventures.
