Peterborough-based digital startup Kavtek Software Corporation launched a pilot project for its augmented and virtual reality platforms in the Innovation Cluster’s new ‘Virtual & Augmented Reality Zone’ on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Kavtek’s innovative approach to VR and AR has led to partnerships with real estate, furniture and tech companies to bring an enterprise solution to these markets.
Sanu Somaweera and Alexandra Campbell, founders of Kavtek, a digital client based out of the Innovation Cluster – Peterborough and the Kawarthas, launched Kavtek in pursuit of providing an enterprise application which has the potential to deliver new kinds of engaging experiences in industries that are lacking innovative solutions.
“Kavtek’s virtual and augmented reality is geared towards an innovative visualization platform that facilitates an insightful communication between brands and consumers,” notes Somaweera. “Thus resulting in an enhanced understanding of the brand and their products.”
With the support of the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP) through Community Futures Peterborough and RBC Royal Bank, the Innovation Cluster has launched the ‘Virtual & Augmented Reality Zone’, for companies like Kavtek. The virtual and augmented reality themed room will allow incubated clients to use hardware such as Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, HTC Vive, Google Daydream and the MSI Gaming laptop that is VR-compatible.
Recognizing a need in the region, Community Futures Peterborough provided the Innovation Cluster with EODP funding to create a virtual reality makerspace in their downtown incubator. The new zone is an inspiring and comfortable space for entrepreneurs to work and collaborate.
“Kavtek will be able to use this space to further develop their virtual and augmented reality innovations,” says Michael Skinner, President and CEO of the Innovation Cluster. “With the support of EODP and RBC, Peterborough will continue to stay at the forefront of new technology.”
“The Government of Canada knows the value of encouraging innovation in the digital media sector by providing technology start-ups the tools and space they need,” said the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario. “I am proud to support Community Futures and projects like the Innovation Cluster as they help entrepreneurs transform ideas and expertise into viable solutions for the marketplace.”
Not only is Kavtek a company included in the rapidly growing tech real-estate market, its innovations are leading the company toward incorporating artificial intelligence future software products.
