Dr. Ralph Shiell, Trent University

Dr. Shiell’s research involves employment and training of highly qualified personnel in the design and construction of research apparatus, equipment control and data acquisition, and the theoretical concepts and tools that underpin atomic, molecular, and optical physics. A provisional patent has been issued in 2008 through Trent University for a novel detector to precisely characterize the properties of incident light in real-time. The device can be further adapted to determine the chemical identities, and concentrations of constituents within a gaseous sample.

The Cluster has assisted with market intelligence for the product, and is currently seeking and negotiating private sector involvement to encourage the opportunities of brining it to market.
