2019 Pitch It! Competitors

Two teams of students have taken home both cash and skills at this year’s annual Pitch-It! competition in Peterborough!

The Innovation Cluster  presented its annual Pitch It! Competition – a pitch competition for students at Trent University and Fleming College to test their great business ideas through the FastStart program. The competition allows aspiring entrepreneurs to test their skills and learn how to pitch to a panel of expert judges.

Pitch It! has been giving students the platform to pitch their great business ideas for years, with the opportunity to improve skills, network and compete for the title and cash!

Sponsored by the Peterborough Region Angel Network, the first place team took home $200, and the second place team took home $100.

After many applications were received, ten teams were chosen to enter the finals. With Covid-19 measures turning things virtual, this year teams were asked to send in a virtual pitch submission for the judges to score on. Judges based their scores on the team’s business plan delivery including a solution to a problem, accuracy on the target market, competition, price, as well as their pitching delivery.

Out of the top 10 final teams, the winners are:

Business idea: Bio Gas Plant. “Bio Gas Plant can be installed in all households allowing organic waste to be converted into renewable energy. People in Peterborough depend on electricity & propane for cooking. By using Bio Gas, they can reduce the utility charges paid monthly. This is an initiative to eliminate waste and a create a source of cheap renewable energy.”

Judges noted the team presented excellent pitching skills and created a timely solution as society is under pressure to turn to renewable energy.

Team Members: Nikitha Dasappan, Kiran Das, Abhinav Manoj, Emmanuel Prakash Henry & Mereeta Figarado

Business Idea: Public Washroom Sanitization. “The product is a foot-aided pump which lifts the toilet seat up and down and cleans the seat in seconds with the help of UV lights.”

Judges noted the team created a solution that is timely and relevant during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Team Members: Trushna Patel, Mukul Kumar, Sanyukta Bandri & Saurav Chauhan

Congratulations to our winners and all that competed!
